Data for Ransom

Situation:

March 2019, Wilmington Foot and Ankle, Inc. was breached and unfortunately fell victim to a ransomware attack. Their data and servers were hacked, and credentials revoked until the perpetrator’s demands were paid and complied with.

Approach:

PCIHIPAA worked diligently with the practice’s I.T. department and actively assisted with the data back-up restoration and recovery. Additionally, the PCIHIPAA Incident Response team initiated and launched a complete forensics investigation into the Wilmington Foot and Ankle affected server. We confirmed and verified that no ePHI (Electronic Patient Health Information) was accessed or corrupted by the hackers, establishing that no new notifications were necessary.
